Playoffs Set; Wings get Phoenix

With the 3-2 overtime win today the Detroit Red Wings lock up the 5th seed. Not too bad for a team that many of you thought were doomed to miss the playoffs. Don't lie to yourselves, I know many of you were panicking up a storm. I said it all year, and I am right, Wings are in the postseason for the 19th straight season.

Detroit gets the Phoenix Coyotes in round one, probably the best possible matchup for the Wings. You could make an arguement for the Canucks, but either of those teams will do for Detroit. The key will be goaltending. Two goaltenders that have never started a playoff series will be put to the test. Vezna trophy candidate Ilya Bryzgalov will be the deciding factor. Phoenix will live and die with the performance of their goaltender. This is where Phoenix may be trouble for Detroit. We all know what happens when the Wings meet a hot goaltender in the playoffs, and that's what Bryzgalov is, a hot goaltender. He could cause teh Wings trouble.

Prediction: Wings win in 5.
Detroit is the hottest team in the NHL right now. Healthy and dangerous, the Red Wing line up and experience will prove too much for the young Coyotes, and Detroit will be moving on to round 2.

  1. The NHL Playoffs are among us and finally are the 8 match-ups are set. I can’t wait for the games to get underway. The Western Conference is so strong with seven teams who made it into the playoffs with 100 points or more. That is incredible! The Eastern Conference is not has strong with only four teams getting to 100+ Pts.

The NHL Playoffs are so much better than the regular season… much more fast paced, more action, and so much more on the line. For a preview and prediction of all match-ups go to: http://www.lionsdenu.com/nhl-playoffs-eastern-conference-round-one-preview-predictions/
Who do you think will win it all? The Capitals dominated the East but anything can happen when the teams hit the ice. And what do you think will take place in the crazy Western Conference? I love it.

  2. Call me a homer, but I honestly believe the Wings have the best chance in the West. They're playing the best hockey in the NHL. Wings and Caps in the finals
